Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation as well as non-governmental organizations has set up an initiative group connected with referendum

On August 4, Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation with the participation of representatives of national trade unions and non-governmental organizations held a meeting devoted to the referendum to be held on 26 September.
Chairman
of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation а member of parlament Sattar Mehbaliyev opened the meeting by
saying that the latest amendment to the Constitution of Azerbaijan was made in
2009.
During
the seven years since the last change Mehbaliyev Sattar stressed that the rapid
development of Azerbaijan's achievements that demonstrates the need for further
improvement of the Basic Law.
He
noted that the main purpose of the amendments to the Constitution to allow the
management and development of new and more flexible. Economic and political

Chairman
of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan informed about the draft law
on the referendum concerning the introduction of amendments and additions to
the Constitution of Azerbaijan regarding the amendment of article 23 of the
Constitution as well as the addition of 6 new items changes to the same document
made by Ilham Aliyev.
S.Mehbaliyev pointed out
that with view to forming the agitation group related to referendum, public
unions and organizations had held meetings, and defined their delegations. 401
delegates representing 24 Nongovernmental organizations and members of AHIK
jointed today's meeting. After defining the quorum to hold a meeting, a
chairman and secretary were elected and confirmed by voting.
After speeches the
issues on agenda were discussed. As a result of discussions, the agitation
group called Civil Society was created which consists of 25 persons by
referendum. In the end, they made a decision to send a notification concerning
creation of Civil Society to Central Election Committee
