APPEAL of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation to international organizations

29 Sep 2020

In the morning of September 27, the Armenian Armed Forces unilaterally violated the ceasefire and launched another act of aggression in the direction of Tartar, Aghdam, Fizuli and Jabrayil regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan using large-caliber weapons, mortars and artillery of various calibers.

The military aggression has caused a large number of casualties among the civilian population and the military. Only in the village of Gashalti, Naftalan region, as a result of artillery fire by the Armenian armed forces, the Gurbanov family of 5 people lost their lives.
Armenia not only occupies the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and its 7 adjacent regions by force of arms, but also continues its desire for "new lands, a new war" from the world community, disrespecting the norms of international law.
Armenia's next aggression violates the fundamental norms and principles of international law, UN Security Council Resolutions 822, 853, 874 and 884 of 1993, which call for the unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as well as international humanitarian law, including 1949. This is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and their protocols.
Armenia has been occupying our lands for 30 years. The military attacks in April 2016 and July 2020 are the latest examples of this intention.
Of course, this cannot continue. The Azerbaijani people have already run out of patience. Our population is tired of living under enemy fire.
The Azerbaijani Armed Forces were forced to take counter-offensive and retaliatory measures in order to prevent the Armenian military aggression and ensure the safety of the civilian population of our numerous settlements along the line of contact. We are defending ourselves in our own lands. International humanitarian law is fully observed in the implementation of defense measures.
After that, all the responsibility for the human and material losses on both sides falls on the political and military circles of Armenia.
The Armenian side is trying to confuse its people and the world community and justify the policy of aggression by spreading false, misleading information.
As a trade union, we call on the world's leading states, international organizations, as well as international trade unions to strongly condemn the aggressive actions of Armenia and defend the just cause of Azerbaijan.
Armenia's annexation and fascist policy in the Caucasus is a threat to stability in our world as a whole.
