Sattar Mohbaliyev: The Moscow Declaration will ensure the positive dynamics of regional development

13 Jan 2021

The tripartite statement signed by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia on November 10, 2020, as well as the Prime Minister of Armenia, not only legally confirms the end of the country's war for the liberation of their lands with the complete victory of Azerbaijan, but also the post-war period. Reflects important aspects of economic development.

In particular, the document pays special attention to the restoration and development of transport links in the region. Article 9 of the statement states that all economic and transport links in the region are being restored. The Republic of Armenia guarantees the security of transport links between the western regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in order to organize the unimpeded movement of citizens, vehicles and cargo in both directions. This means that the construction of new transport communications connecting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the western regions of Azerbaijan will be provided.
The next meeting between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Moscow on January 11, 2021 was based on the provisions of the tripartite statement signed two months ago to ensure peace and economic development in the region. It is important to discuss the next steps in this direction together.
The new statement signed as a result of the Moscow meeting will undoubtedly serve to strengthen stability and security in the region and the economic development of the region. One of the important results of the meeting will be the opening of the "Mehri Corridor" as part of the "East-West" transport corridor, which means the opening of the railway, first to Nakhchivan and then to brotherly Turkey. Of course, the implementation of these projects will further strengthen the geo-economic position of Azerbaijan. Also, these lines of communication will be of great importance not only for Azerbaijan, but also for all countries in the region. It is no coincidence that after the trilateral meeting, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in a statement to the press: “The statement signed today testifies to our intentions, as one item of the statement on the results of the cessation of hostilities was to restore transport communications. This area can bring great dynamism to the development of the region and strengthen security. Because the opening of transport communications is in the interests of the peoples of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and our neighbors. I am confident that neighboring countries will also actively join the creation of a diversified network of transport corridors and transport arteries in our region. We must continue to try to find areas of activity that are effective and result-oriented in the short term. ”
Thus, the statement signed by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin as a result of the Moscow meeting on January 11 opened completely new prospects for stabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus.
