Sattar Mohbaliyev: The arrival of Russian peacekeepers in the region is in the interests of Azerbaijan

13 Nov 2020

The Patriotic War waged by Azerbaijan for its territorial integrity ended with the historic victory of our people. November 10 was written in the history of our people as the day of victory.

The territorial integrity of our country was ensured, and the successful counter-offensive operations carried out by the Azerbaijani Army resulted in the full capitulation of the occupying Armenia. According to the signed trilateral statement, a peacekeeping center will be established in the region to increase the effectiveness of monitoring the compliance of the conflicting parties with the agreements. Turkish and Russian servicemen will work together in this center as a guarantor of peace.
It should be noted that both countries are friendly and neighboring countries for us, and the establishment of such a center with their participation is of great importance. First of all, the establishment of this center eliminates the attempts of other forces to side with the region. Turkey, along with Russia, will play a key role in the official settlement of the conflict and monitoring the ceasefire. That is, Turkey and Russia will jointly participate in the format of future cooperation in the region.
Unfortunately, today some forces are trying to mislead public opinion by making biased and completely untrue statements about the arrival of Russian peacekeepers in the region on social media. Thus, some are trying to present the deployment of peacekeeping forces in our country as the establishment of a Russian military base. Of course, this is a completely wrong and baseless claim. It is only a matter of a limited number of servicemen carrying out peacekeeping missions. In addition, as I said earlier, the newly established peacekeeping center will include Turkish servicemen in the region.
Also, during the discussion of the peacekeeping issue, it is important to note that Russia has fully maintained its neutrality during the counter-offensive operations in Azerbaijan. Even serious attempts by the powerful Armenian lobby and pro-Armenian media outlets to engage Russia in active military operations have failed.
It can be concluded that those who oppose the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the region, including the National Council, actually have a completely different goal. It is clear that the purpose of these forces is to overshadow our victory, which was achieved thanks to the selflessness and bravery of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the Glorious Azerbaijani Army. However, this is not possible. The people of Azerbaijan are together with their President, and this unity will continue to lead us to new victories and historic victories with confidence!
