Conference on the role of Trade Unions in the Elimination of Discrimination at the workplace

Chairman of ATUC, Member of Parliament S. Mehbaliyev gave a speech about measures taken in above-mentioned sphere in Azerbaijan as well as adapted documents and about applied international practice. He noted in his speech that gender equality matters were always a significant problem at an international level. Regional seminars on” A Fight against discrimination cases toward women at workplaces“ were held by ATUC with support of ILO.
Center for Gender equality and Women Problems was established in Confederation in order to provide the effectiveness of these measures.
Chairman of ATUC also emphasized that percentage of women in trade unions system was 51% nowadays. Percentage of women at elective bodies of Republican Trade Unions was 15984. Out of these 2936 were chairwomen of Trade Union Committees.
Senior Specialist of ILO Sergeyus Glovackas pointed out that such seminars must be considered as a decisive step in the enlightenment process in this matter. He also stated that ILO highly appreciated the role of Azerbaijan Government in the fight against women discrimination.
Recently Azerbaijan has taken considerable steps in protection of labor laws. The Head of Friedrich Ebert Fund Rashad Huseyinli gave wide information about the activity of the fund. He also emphasized the importance of conduction of seminars on discrimination at workplaces in some regions of the country.
Then in session following topics were discussed: “Analysis of the Situation and Prospective”, “Discrimination at Workplaces in Azerbaijan and Attitude of Social Partners”, “Non-Discrimination Conventions, Regulations and Programs of ILO”, “Steps and Preparation of Action Plan of Trade Unions”, “Presentation of Working Groups.” Action Plan of trade unions was prepared at the end of seminar.
