17 Oct 2019

A meeting with the delegation of Druskininkay, Lithuania, was held on October 17 in Baku. Welcoming the guests, the first deputy chairman of the ATUC, Ilyas Aliyev, expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to meet with representatives of the well-known resort city of Lithuania in the Confederation.

He noted that he was in Druskininkay a few years ago, was familiar with the facilities and infrastructure of sanatoriums, witnessed the construction of the second longest skiing track in Europe at that time, and met with the city administration officials. II. Referring to the traditional relations and relations between our countries and peoples, as well as between our trade unions, Aliyev emphasized that these relations are still in the development phase today. He told the guests that we have friends working in trade unions in your country, who have long been friends with us. One of our close partners, your fellow countryman, Sergius Glovaskas from the International Labor Organization in Geneva, is one of the people we have been cooperating with for many years.
     I. Aliyev stressed that the management of the city of Druskininkay is very important to the city infrastructure, further development of sanatorium and resort facilities, implementation of new business projects, establishment of contacts with new partners and further expansion of medical tourism in the city. It works with confidence and diligence. The purpose of your visit to our country is to establish contacts with new partners and to contribute to the development of sanatorium and resorts in both countries. We welcome your initiative and wish you success in your activities.
Druskininkai mayor, Richardard Malinauskas, said in a statement that he had visited our country four times before and had always been a friend of the high level of hospitality and warmth. He said that we are interested in finding new partners as a resort city. We want to build relations with the executive authorities, trade unions and various government agencies in your country. We have been in your city for several days and have had a number of meetings during this time. We have ample plans and we would like to invite you to our city and get acquainted with our conditions. By the way, let me tell you that our city is preparing to celebrate its 225th anniversary soon and we would be glad to see you among the guests.
The mayor, who spoke about the city, said that despite having a population of 18,000, we could officially host 400,000 visitors a year. If the locals come here for more than two or three days, then foreign guests come for weeks and sometimes months. In particular, Israeli citizens love our city and come for a long time. In the resort town there is a great infrastructure, along with mineral water and mud treatment. A central water source was built. Well-known in Europe,  and Skiing facilities were created. We were able to provide our guests with seasonal, year-round service. The services provided are at a high level and we can compete at prices. We are ready to accept guests either through trade unions or through travel companies.
Deputy Chairman of the ATUC, President of "Kurort" Joint Stock Company, Abil Agasiyev, informed the guests about the sanatorium and resort facilities of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions. We have various profile sanatoriums in Absheron peninsula and Naftalan. Unfortunately, some of these resorts are now in the occupied territories of Armenia. Decisions made by the government in recent years on the development of sanatorium and spa facilities give impetus to the development of health resorts in the country, and we continue to work in this direction.
Speaking to the guests about the activities of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions, ATUC Deputy Chairman Aqil Dadashov said that today the ATUC is a highly influential organization operating in close cooperation with international trade union centers. Suffice it to say that the chairman of the ATUC is the Vice President of the International Trade Unions Confederation and the Pan European Regional Council. Our meetings, exchanges and conversations with our Lithuanian counterparts at various international events have been at the highest level for many years. Our mutual cooperation and business relationships are constantly expanding and strengthening.
The Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Egidijus Navikas spoke about the importance of this meeting for ATUC for both parties. Noting that he started his work in Baku in September, the ambassador said that he attaches great importance to the implementation of joint projects between Azerbaijan and Lithuania in the coming period. The Twin Projects, which are planned to be implemented by various ministries and government agencies, still have nine, and the number will be increased. We envisage greater cooperation in the fields of economy and trade. When it comes to friendships, it is very important to us. I am very pleased that our delegation is in Baku and holds various meetings here. A protocol on cooperation with the Sabail district of Baku will be signed today. This document mainly envisages implementation of joint activities and projects.

The Ambassador wished success to the participants.
