Meeting of Executive Committee of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation was held
27 Dec 2018
The next meeting of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijani Trade Unions Confederation was held on December 27.
At the meeting, headed by ATUC chairman, Member of
Parliament Sattar Mohbaliyev first of all reviewed the application of the Trade
Union of Customs Workers to the membership of Azerbaijan Trade Unions
Confederation and approved it. The
second issue was called "Employment Issues and Responsibilities of Trade
Unions in Azerbaijan". The outcome of the reforms in the country has
resulted in some positive changes in the labor market, the massive reduction of
workers, and the level of employment of the population increased from 47.8
percent in 2005 to 48.9 percent in 2017.
More than 1.9 million new jobs have been created over the
past fifteen years, about 70 percent of them being permanent jobs as a result
of state employment programs in order to provide employment.
The number of unemployed people, who have been granted
stateless employment status by the employment agencies and the number of
unemployed people estimated by the ILO methodology, has dropped. At the same
time, there are a number of shortcomings in solving employment problems. This
is primarily due to discrepancy between supply and demand in the labor market,
disproportionate distribution of employees across sectors, the unemployment
rate among youth, the increase in informal employment relationships, and other
issues.
Azerbaijan trade unions actively participate in the
development and implementation of the state employment policy, in the
preparation and implementation of relevant state programs, the improvement of
labor legislation, and ensures the protection of workers' labor rights. It was
also mentioned that trade unions can do more work in the field of employment. A
draft decision was submitted to the Executive Committee and approved.
ATUC Chairman, Member of Parliament Sattar Mohbaliyev commented
on the agenda. He first wished success to the newly elected committee of the
trade union committee. He expressed his hope that they would justify their
trust. Speaking about the second issue, the ATUC chairman said that the
relevant state programs and decrees signed by the head of state, Mr Ilham
Aliyev, had a great impact on solving the employment problem, especially in the
regions. There are many modern and safe working places in the regions.
Traditional agricultural areas are being developed. The state has allocated
enough funds to self-employment. Free pets are distributed to the population.
All this raises the welfare of the population and prevents flow from the
regions to large cities.
S.Mohbaliyev also touched upon the problem of youth
employment: "Young people should be trusted. It should be borne in mind
that the economy in Azerbaijan is built on the basis of modern technologies.
Young people can master modern technology more quickly and perfectly. "
At the end of his speech, the ATUC Chairman congratulated
Azerbaijani Trade Union members and members on the upcoming holidays on behalf
of the Executive Committee.
