The XIV Republic Students' Universiade was opened

The XIV Republic Students' Universiade was opened at the Baku Sports Palace on April 29. The national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was first performed.
Deputy Minister of Education Firudin
Gurbanov highly appreciated the role of physical education and sport in
ensuring the future development of each country, its gene pool protection. The
Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of development of physical education
and sport, as in all spheres after national leader Heydar Aliyev's activity,
including restoration of Azerbaijan's independence. Noting that Azerbaijan has
gained a major achievement in Atlanta Olympics - the first Olympic Games to be
held as an independent country, Deputy Minister said the number of successes in
the coming years has increased: "The policy pursued by national leader
Heydar Aliyev in the field of sports has entered an important stage since 1997.
Following his election as President of the National Olympic Committee, Ilham
Aliyev, who has succeeded in all the areas he leads, began to develop more
rapidly in Azerbaijan's sport. The progress made in physical education and
sport in our country and the transformation of Azerbaijan into the equal right
of the world sports family have yielded results in a short time. At the last
Olympic Games - the Rio Olympics, our team won 18 medals, winning a magnificent
victory. This proves once again that Azerbaijan is a sporting country. "
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismayil
Ismayilov underlined that the basis of the sport policy in Azerbaijan was laid
by national leader Heydar Aliyev, saying that thanks to the successful sports
policy, our country is making great achievements in this field. "Along
with the state care of athletes, important work has been done to strengthen the
material and technical base of this area. Olympic Sports Complexes that meet
the most up-to-date standards have been built and put into use for young
people. It is noteworthy that our athletes are making remarkable achievements
in prestigious international tournaments, raising the flag of Azerbaijan and
singing the hymn. Azerbaijan hosts the most prestigious sports events and hosts
such competitions in the regions. The world's strongest chess players have
participated in the traditional international tournament dedicated to the
memory of Vugar Hashimov in Shamkir. "
Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions
Confederation, member of the Parlament Milli Majlis Sattar Mohbaliyev said that
great leader Heydar Aliyev always attached great importance to education and
sport at all times. Stressing that the ideas of the National Leader were
implemented by President Ilham Aliyev, S.Mohbaliyev spoke about the successes
achieved in the successful sport and youth policy implemented in Azerbaijan. He
underlined the importance of trade unions' organizations in raising physical
culture and sports in Azerbaijan, adding that Universiades play an important
role in this regard. "Students from 16 higher educational institutions are
participating at the XIV Republican Universiade. The competitions will be held
on 10 types of sports and will cover more than a thousand students. Education,
Youth and Sports Ministries and the Republican Committee of Free Trade Unions
of Azerbaijan are organizing the Universiade organized by the Youth Council
Student Sports Society to attract students to physical education and sports.
The winners will take part in the XXX World Summer Universiade which will be
held on July 3-14 in Naples, Italy. "
