Baku hosted a seminar supported by International Labor Organization
10 Dec 2018
On 10 December, a seminar on “Compliance of labor safety standards and regulations with ILO recommendations and conventions” started its work as held by Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC) and supported by the International Labor Organization (ILO).
Making an opening speech at the seminar,
the ATUC deputy chairman Javanshir Alkhasov noted that occupational safety and
health is one of the priorities for the confederation. He said: “Provision of
labor rights is one the significant forces that stimulate just society building
in any country. It is very important to join all efforts to deal with such
topical issue as ensuring safe working conditions for employees in the era of world
economy globalization. Adapting workplaces operational conditions to standards established
by the ILO charges trade unions with responsible tasks.
The ATUC and member organizations together
with trade union associations, the republic’s governmental bodies take
consecutive actions to prepare new legal framework and improve existing
framework for labor safety. 58 conventions of the ILO have been ratified in the
republic, and a number of requirements described in conventions have been
included in labor, civil, criminal procedure and administrative offences codes
of Azerbaijan Republic.
Clarifications made by us with regard to
occupational safety laws and regulations ensured ratification of ILO Convention
183 - “Maternity Protection”. Presently, we are working with social partners to
have some of the ILO conventions, including Conventions 29, 131, 155, 168, 184
and 187 ratified.
We constructively work with our social partners
in order to enhance efficiency of social cooperation.”
