Sattar Mohbaliyev: The priority directions of the state's cultural policy have been clearly defined
08 Jan 2021
The views expressed by President Ilham Aliyev in his January 5 speech on the appointment of Anar Karimov as Minister of Culture are extremely important not only for those working in this field, but also for anyone who values Azerbaijani culture, national, cultural and historical heritage.
First of all, it should be noted that the President
stressed the importance of preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language,
which is a means of communication for more than 50 million people around the
world. Indeed, the Azerbaijani language, along with other components of our
national and cultural heritage, has been one of the main factors shaping us as
a nation, a people for centuries. It is no coincidence that the national leader
Heydar Aliyev in his speeches always called for the protection of the purity of
the Azerbaijani language, emphasizing the special independent position of our
language in the family of Turkic languages. Today, the preservation and
development of the Azerbaijani language must also be assessed as the protection
of our independence, the traditions of a single statehood and our national
unity. That is why the President of the country highlighted the thoughtful and
purposeful steps in this direction as one of the priority issues.
One of the main issues analyzed in detail in the speech
of President Ilham Aliyev was the work to be done to restore and protect
historical, cultural and religious monuments located in our liberated
territories. In general, Azerbaijan is a country rich in historical monuments.
Almost all of these monuments enrich the cultural heritage not only of us, but
of all mankind. It is known that the Maiden's Tower, Icheri Sheher,
Shirvanshahs Palace Complex, as well as some architectural monuments located in
other regions are world famous and are included in the UNESCO Intangible
Cultural Heritage List. There are also many ancient temples of Islam,
Christianity and Judaism in our country. This shows that the principles of
tolerance that our people, as well as its bearers, have ancient roots in
Azerbaijan. Today, in our country, along with the VIII century Shamakhi Juma
Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the world, there is also the Kish Church,
which belongs to the Christian religion. The liberated Khudavang Church has
been handed over to its owners, the Udi living in Azerbaijan. The Church of
Nice, a Caucasian Albanian church renovated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation,
was opened during the war. Today, the protection of all cultural and religious
monuments in our country is always in the focus of our state. Many historical
monuments have been restored so far on the initiative of President Ilham
Aliyev. In particular, Russian-Orthodox churches, synagogues, Catholic
churches, Georgian churches, Armenian church in Baku are all protected by the
state. However, as noted by the President in his speech, so far more than sixty
mosques have been destroyed in the occupied and liberated lands, and no one is
reacting. No international organization condemns Armenia. Of course, this
situation cannot remain the same. In the coming days, at the invitation of the
Azerbaijani government, the ICESCO mission and the relevant expert group will
carry out a mission to destroy Muslim monuments in the Karabakh region by
Armenians and inform the world community about these acts of vandalism. Thus,
in his speech, the President stressed the importance of paying special
attention to historical, cultural and religious monuments, noting that this
area is of exceptional importance for our national culture.
It should also be noted that President Ilham Aliyev once
again expressed the will of all the people by declaring the city of Shusha, the
crown of Azerbaijani culture, the capital of Azerbaijani culture. It is safe to
say that in a very short time, our foreign guests will be participants and
spectators of the traditional Vagif Poetry Days and the Foreign Nightingale Festival
in Shusha. In his speech, the head of state spoke about such cultural projects
that will serve to further enhance the international prestige and strengthen
the image of our country, noting that Azerbaijan has always made invaluable
contributions to world cultural heritage.
It should be noted that the announcement of 2021 in
Azerbaijan as the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" by President Ilham Aliyev
is a decision of great importance not only for our country, but in fact for the
entire cultural international community. At the same time, this step is the
embodiment of the high attention paid by the head of state to the literature
and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan.
