An event dedicated to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work was held

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population organized a video conference on "Preventing the crisis and preparing for it - investing in sustainable labor protection systems" dedicated to April 28 - World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
The
event was attended by Minister of Labor and Social Protection Sahil Babayev,
Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev, President
of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Mammad Musayev, WHO
Representative in Azerbaijan Hande Harmanci, as well as international
organizations, social partnership, relevant state and Representatives of
private organizations attended.
During
his speech, Minister Babayev said that a series of steps had been taken in the
field of labor protection in our country, the Technical Committee for
Occupational Safety Standardization was established for the first time in 2020,
and a draft amendment to the Labor Code was prepared. The Minister noted that
labor protection is one of the main goals of the state's social policy in
Azerbaijan, and the ILO conventions on labor protection have been adopted by
our country, and comprehensive national legislation in the field of labor
protection is being constantly improved. The Minister also stressed the
importance of insuring all employees against accidents at work by employers.
Speaking
later, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, MP Sattar
Mohbaliyev spoke about the work done to protect labor in a pandemic. The
chairman noted that on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, necessary
decisions were made to implement urgent preventive measures against the
pandemic, the activities of many enterprises and organizations were suspended
due to the application of social isolation, working hours were reduced, remote
work was carried out. Restrictive measures have been identified to prevent the
spread of the virus.
Mohbaliyev
noted that during the pandemic, Azerbaijani trade unions twice distributed 136
tons of food gifts to 3,900 low-income families living in 76 cities and
regions, and provided 6 million manat in financial assistance to support the
measures taken by the state. A lot of money has been spent.
The
chairman of the confederation said that more than 93% of the shortcomings
identified by labor inspectors in compliance with labor legislation and labor
protection requirements have been eliminated. According to him, the number of
people injured at work in trade unions decreased by 24.4% in 2020, and the
number of people killed as a result of industrial injuries decreased by 28.1%.
Mehbaliyev
noted that since 2009, trade unions and employers have been encouraged to
increase the effectiveness of trade union control in enterprises and
organizations under the Confederation, to create healthy and safe working
conditions for them, to create safe working conditions in every workplace. The
Republican review-competition "The best enterprise (organization) of the
year for the creation of healthy and safe working conditions" is being
held in order to encourage
Mammad
Musayev, President of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers)
of Azerbaijan, as well as Hande Harmanci, Representative of the World Health
Organization in Azerbaijan, shared their views and suggestions on the topic.
