Trade Unions Activists share their experiences

The International Labor Organization together with Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation held an international seminar on the theme “the movement and the prospects of trade unions by the Deeping of economic crisis” on 12 April 2016.

The purpose of the seminar was analyzing the activity of Azerbaijan Trade Unions and discussion of representation of the rights and interests of employers by trade unions. The Seminar was opened by the first vice chairman of ATUC Ilyas Aliyev. He wished efficiently activity to the members of sectoral trade unions on discussing the issues which take part in the agenda. He said that this seminar will play a base role in our future work. Therefore, we should present our opinions and positions in this direction. Participants need take more deliberate practice from the guests in this seminar, which is rich with dialogues and exchange of views.  Because there are still many issues to be studied. Therefore, please ask the unclear points for you without hesitation.  Be creative to work.
The vice chairman of ATUC I. Aliyev noted that the global crisis affected all areas in the world, also the activities of trade unions. So some businessmen oppressing the members of trade unions in order to cancel their work.
How should the trade unions in the modern era? What we need to get stronger trade unions?
It is always discussed and controversial issue. And always requires dialogue and consultation. That's why the most experienced members of the sectoral trade union organizations participate in this event today.  They are well aware of the problems in this area. Also the delivery of the knowledge and experience from seminar to other members will contribute to the solution of the problem.
ILO's senior specialist on workers Sergius Qlovaskas, spoke on the activities of the organization. He noted that in the result of the workshop participants will gain some important experience. Also, another purpose of this meeting is to strengthen relations between trade unions, said S.Qlovaskas. "Of course, there is no problem in this field. Our main goal is the creation of decent working conditions, the protection of workers’ rights and social issues. It is necessary to achieve the implementation of Collective in the newly-established enterprises. How should be the labor in the twenty-first century and what is the main public opinion about it, these questions must be clarified.
The expert of ILO, Vsevolod Barbanaeaqra presented his expectations from this seminar. He noted that there must be found some ways of developing for trade unions, despite of the obstacles. The rights of workers must be protected; the social issues must be resolved. First of all, we must inform each other about the situation in this area. The activity of every member of trade unions must be clarified. Of course, we can achieve positive results if we answer these questions and realize them.
Further discussions were held in groups. There were discussions about modern trade unions and its main principles, directions, also about the social partnership during the tem works. The participants exchanged their views, put forward their proposals about the strengths and weaknesses of the trade unions, the level analysis, finding ways to reduce the weaknesses, strengthening and improving the efficiency of trade union activities.
The event lasted three days.
