08 Dec 2020

The Coordinating Committee of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) held an online meeting on December 8.

ATUC Chairman, MP, Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation and the Pan-European Regional Council Sattar Mohbaliyev attended the event on the ZOOM platform.
Speaking about the socio-economic situation in the member states during the coronavirus pandemic and the activities of trade unions, the ATUC chairman said that the coronavirus pandemic has become a dangerous problem not only for human health, but also for workers' labor rights, principles of work and sources of income.
Since the discovery of the coronavirus infection in Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev has begun to take large-scale social support measures and take serious measures to minimize the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the population. A special action plan has been developed, as a result of which the implementation of measures for employment and social security of the population has begun.
The ATUC chairman said that due to the current situation, special attention is paid to the unjustified layoffs, their prevention and protection of jobs.
He noted that one of the priorities of the measures taken to combat this was to expand employment opportunities. Due to the pandemic, a lump sum payment of 190 manat was launched under the support mechanism for more than 600,000 people, and the process continues today. According to the relevant instructions and orders of the President, the government has allocated 600 million manat, which is aimed at providing employment and social support to 2.5 million citizens.
According to the chairman of the confederation, a total of 910,000 employees in the public sector and 719,000 in the private sector were provided with employment.
The chairman stressed that a task force set up by the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation is doing important work in the fight against the pandemic. Trade unions identify employees, as well as families belonging to vulnerable groups, and provide them with financial and other support. In addition, 448,000 manat was transferred to the Coronavirus Support Fund, 200,000 manat to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 205,000 manat to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's Regional Development Public Union and 10,000 manat to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Trade Unions.
In general, during the fight against coronavirus, Azerbaijani trade unions spent 5,372,558 manat in this direction. During this period, trade unions pay special attention to the observance of sanitary and hygienic norms in enterprises and organizations, the prevention of mass layoffs, and the timely payment of wages.
I think that the trade unions will continue to take important steps to improve the situation of their members and protect their labor rights.
